Preparing your garden for winter

It is the best time to ready your park home garden for the cold conditions ahead, with the cooler temperatures of winter already settling in.

Here are some tips on how this winter, to plan, preserve and care for your garden. It’s important to have a nice home and you certainly get one with a Park Homes Gloucester property like those at http://www.parkhomelife.com/our-parks/orchard-park-homes-gloucester-gloucestershire/.

What’s the benefit of fallen leaves? An additional advantage when the leaves fall off your trees helps freshly planted shrubs, perennials or trees you might have.  Rake up the leaves to be used in your compost pile, or use them as mulch. Alternatively, you could disintegrate the leaves into tiny parts using a mulching mower that will nourish the soil.

Here are few ideas on how to plan, secure and care for your garden as annual flowers die and fall asleep, prune them to the ground or down to two inches tall. However, plants such as coneflowers or ornamental grasses with interesting seed heads may be left to establish a fun winter garden. When winter sets in these seed heads will also create a treat for songbirds. As you would like to enable new growth to emerge, note to cut the plants back during early spring.

In the winter months, rodents, voles and mice love to eat the bark found on young trees. Wrap the saplings with a plastic tree guard or chicken wire to protect your young plants. Plastic tree guards also help shield young trees on clear, cool days from the sun, when the sun will stimulate the growth of tree cells, but as soon as the temperature decreases and the sun falls, these cells will die.
