The Cotswolds covers a huge area, from Gloucestershire to Oxfordshire east to west, and from Worcestershire to Wiltshire north to south. Classed as an area of outstanding natural beauty it is easy for anyone to see why this is. The stunning landscape attracts many visitors to the area, particularly during the summer months.  Walkers come from far and wide equipped with boots and socks, and hiking backpack Ireland based company offer https://basecamp.ie/backpacks.html . The area is also home to many extraordinary and interesting historical places to explore too, one of which is Broadway Tower.

As well as being set in 50 acres of some of the most stunning landscape in the region, Broadway tower stands high up in amongst the land, offering unrivalled views of the surrounding countryside. The tower is the creation of the famous 18th Century gardener and horticulturalist Capability Brown. The position of the tower was no mistake – it was designed to offer the stunning views loved by many.

Visitors flock to the tower to learn about it’s fascinating and rich history, and you may even be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the local red deer herd from there. As well as the historical tower itself, you can discover some more chilling and recent parts of British history in the tower grounds, as beneath this idyllic countryside lies one of the relics of the cold war and a reminder of what we may have faced – the Broadway nuclear bunker.

The bunker was closed in 1991 as it was no longer needed but it is possible to book a tour of the bunker to uncover the fascinating history of how Britain was preparing for nuclear destruction.
