Searching for Sasquatch

Trev February 27, 2017 Reviews Comments are off

Is Bigfoot real? If this is the kind of question that keeps you up at night then maybe it’s about time for a Bigfoot expedition of your own. There is a ton of circumstantial evidence for the existence of such a hairy beast – eyewitness accounts, huge footprints and grainy photographs. But there’s no scientific evidence and Bigfoot remains a creature recorded only through folklore. Maybe we should get our terminology correct to begin with. Bigfoot is the name given to a legendary race of ape men all over the world whereas Sasquatch is the guy who is said to be secretly stomping around North America.

So pack your bags and grab your passport because you’re off on your own Sasquatch hunt. You’ll need a decent video camera with audio recording capabilities, good night vision goggles with thermal imaging, some company (hanging around woods on your own is just creepy) and a lot of patience. Stories of the giant hairy creatures have been around since the Native Americans first began telling settlers about them. The earliest written account appeared in 1811 by David Thompson who was mapping regions of Canada and the United States. The Spokanes, the local Native American tribe, told Thompson of a race of hairy giants who lived on a nearby mountain. This was also the first time a footprint was mentioned. This was in Washington State and possibly referred to Mount Saint Helens or the Cascade Mountains so this will be your first location.

In the summer of 1924, a prospector and four others had an encounter with a tribe of ape-like men in a Washington mountain range near Mount Saint Helens in an area now known as ‘Ape Canyon’. Whether you believe it not, their account of being attacked at their pine lodge all night until dawn by a band of hairy beasts is enough to send shivers down your spine.

The famous film footage of the Sasquatch was recorded in 1967 by Bigfoot enthusiasts, Robert Gimlin and Robert Patterson. Reports had come in about a strange creature roaming the woods in Orleans, California and footprints had been spotted. The two have spent their whole lives claiming that this was real and they were never involved in a hoax. Analysis of the footage appears to conclude that the movement of the being could not have been a man in a gorilla costume.

Footprint casts taken seem to provide the best solid evidence so far. In 1969, a trail of over one thousand prints was discovered in Washington state leading through the snow. The tracks were a staggering 17 inches long and appeared to show that the creature had a deformity on its right foot. In 1982, in the same area, prints were found that showed sweat pores and dermal ridges (like foot fingerprints). Experts said that these were ape-like and were not fake. Sasquatch footprints are being found almost everyday in North America.
