Need a space on your computer that others find it hard to access and where you store your stuff privately? By creating an invisible folder, you will have all your files avoid “secret” by hand and are in sight of prying eyes.
When we share our computer with other people, it never hurts to have a private area to which other users cannot access. Thanks to user account Windows segmentation is instantaneous, but there are still areas of common access and which can be required to put something others cannot see with the naked eye.
One of the most common ways to hide files and folders in Windows is mark them as hidden (by right-clicking on the item in question and from the field by checking the box Properties “hidden”). However, this is only practical if you have configured the system to not show hidden files and folders, as otherwise they will be shown (with some attenuation, but fully visible).
A more curious and effective trick, and it works from Windows XP to Windows 10, is the one that allows us to create an invisible folder. First, you’ll need to create a folder in the location you prefer, with the usual procedure. For now do not worry about the name, because that will come later.
Change the folder icon by one empty
Once created, click the right mouse button on it, go into Properties and go to the tab Customize. Here, you must change the folder icon, which is the way you get to “fool” Windows. Simply choose an empty icon ready (not show any content) and. You see trying until you find one that is completely transparent, choosing those showing an empty space and applying the changes until you find the right one.
Deletes the folder name
Now is the time to complete concealment renaming the folder, so that does not show anything! Generally, Windows does not allow left blank the name of a file or folder, so you have to take a shortcut.
In the same menu Properties previous step, this time, you have to enter the tab General and, in the name field of the file or folder, press the ALT key and type “0160” (without quotation marks). In this way, we will make the name is not displayed, but yes, the trick only works using the numeric keypad, so if your PC does not have it, you have to choose a symbol that pass as unnoticed as possible ( such as a comma).
From this moment, the folder will be completely hidden (at least at first glance), and only see if you select with the mouse the area in which it is located.
