Why Gloucester’s Great for Families

Trev March 30, 2018 Reviews Comments are off

For those of us already in Gloucester, we know it’s a great place to raise a family. If you’re thinking of moving to the area and need some more convincing on the benefits of living and working in Gloucester, then consider these points:

In a recent survey by the consumer group Which?, Gloucester ranked fifth in the list of best places to for young families in Britain. We should be proud of that endorsement. The survey looked at cheapest places to buy a property that had a high concentration of young families. This suggests the area has more support for parents, more child care facilities and schools.

Great schools

Gloucester has some great schools that consistently perform well in both exam results and Ofsted reports. With a mix of private, grammar and comprehensive, there are many schools to suit all families. They include the High School for Girls, Crypt School, Ribston Hall and St. Peter’s High School. The Tall Ships Festival in Gloucester is a hugely fun event that occurs every other year. A seasonal ice-rink, museum events, farm parks, skiing, swimming and bowling. The events and activities in the city are really geared towards families with children of all ages.

Sports

Gloucester is fortunate in that it has loads of sports on offer. From loads of gyms, the home of Gloucester Rugby, numerous football clubs for kids, a purpose-built tennis centre, leisure centre and running track. There are loads of opportunities for families who enjoy the great outdoors and keeping active.

Concerts

Now the home ground of Gloucester Rugby is regularly hosting concerts, some big names have been performing here. Recent concerts have included Little Mix, Tom Jones and a host of other comedians and musicians.

Gloucester Quays

Since the warehouses at Gloucester Docks were converted into a fabulous outlet shopping complex, the waterside area is a top destination filled with top name shops, famous restaurant chains, bars and a multi-screen cinema. During the summer, a man-made beach appears, and boat rides travel up and down the canal.

Accessible travel links

Gloucester has an enviable location and sits right on the M5, giving it quick and easy access to Bristol, Cardiff and Birmingham. London is only a couple of hours away and the trains run regularly from the city centre station.

Green Spaces

One of the lovely things about Gloucester is not only its proximity to the outstanding beauty of the Cotswolds but its commitment to preserving loads of green spaces and play areas in the urban areas. When the sun comes out, the kids can play in any number of parks right across the city.
