Top Safety Tips for Motorway Driving

The first top safety tips for motorway driving is to ensure that your tyres are at the right pressure and have the legal amount of tread. As the one point where the vehicle touches the road surface, the safety of the tyres is paramount. The reason for this is because cars travel faster and need a greater braking distance when travelling at speed so if the tyres are not adequate, safety will be compromised.

Keeping safe and keeping your car safe when travelling on the motorway is very important. You should always be aware of road conditions and speed limits, but there are other safety tips to keep in mind when travelling on the motorway as well. When travelling on the motorway it’s not a good idea to overtake another vehicle unless you’re absolutely confident because it can be extremely dangerous. Never make last minute or sudden manoeuvres on the motorway, because they can often lead to serious accidents.

Many drivers ignore the warning signs on the motorway network, and as a result, they get caught out by the system. For example, one popular UK Highway Code violation is not checking mirrors. If you don’t regularly check your mirrors, then you could be putting yourself at risk when driving on the motorway. You should also be able to see any vehicles beside you on the highway, so you know if there’s something that is going to pose a hazard for you.
