Mental Illness at Work and How to Treat Mental Illness

Mental illness can affect anyone, and it is important for people to gain an understanding of it. Noticing the signs to look out for can help you to spot a mental illness either in yourself or in someone else.

As most of us need to go to work for a living, workplaces can do a lot to increase the awareness of mental illness too. Training courses such as the Tidal Training mental health training courses can help to increase the understanding of mental health in the workplace.

Treating a mental illness is something that a doctor will need to do – there are different techniques for doing this, which may be used together. It might take trial and error to work out which ones are right for the person, but here are the main ways of treating mental illness…

Medication – There are many types of drugs available which can help to reduce the symptoms of mental illness. These can be anti-depressants, antipsychotics or things like beta blockers for example. A doctor will be able to work with the patient to find the best type for them.

Talking Therapy – Therapies like counselling and CBT are known as talking therapies. This is where you can speak with a trained professional about your problems, and they will listen and give you advice to help you to get better.

Complementary Therapy – Therapies like aromatherapy and acupuncture are known as complementary therapies. Many people find that they are a great help for their mental illness, and they can reduce stress.
