As we get older we tend to get stuck in a routine of applying our make up in a certain way, the same way we’ve been doing it for years. We might have found a product we liked years ago and still be using now. However, make up professionals believe that trying the latest advancements in lighter, luminous products could have older women looking even better. Here are some tips for getting the most of your make up for older ladies:
- Try a primer
While foundation remains the first go-to product for many of us, using a primer has been suggested as it’s much lighter than a heavy foundation. Use a foundation that is lighter in texture and keep it in place with a primer instead.
- Too Pale
Our skin naturally pales as we age so using a foundation that is too pale for our skin is a mistake many of us are making. Remember you can always mix and match shades by blending. You might try a warmer tone and applying evenly with a foundation brush.
- Visible Concealer
Wrinkles are an inevitable part of the aging process and we might be tempted to grab for the concealer, but this can let us down if it’s sinking into our crow’s feet! If you’re putting concealer under your eyes, apply it only to the inner half of the under-eye area to cover any puffiness or darkness. If it’s still a problem, try using a brush-on highlighter pen and ditch the concealer altogether.
- Eyebrows
Not much looks worse than bold, overdone eyebrows. In this case, a sparse eyebrow is always preferable to a heavily drawn on one. It could be a fault with your choice of eyeline pencil and it’s going on too hard because it’s too soft. It needs to be the other way around, a hard pencil going on softly. If you’re having this problem, try a new liner pencil with a harder tip.
- Bad Blusher
Applying your blusher from the corner of your mouth to your ear will only make you look gaunt as you age. The best method to achieve instant lift is to swirl the brush higher on the apples of your cheeks instead. Did you know you should regularly clean your brushes too? This is easily done with the Stylpro brush cleaner Ireland. For more information, visit beauty matters
- Leaking Lipstick
As we get older, like it or not, the distinction between skin and lips lessens making it easier for our lipstick to bleed into creases in the skin. To combat this problem, don’t apply straight from the stick but use a lipstick brush, dabbing into the centre of your lips and spreading outwards to the corners.
- Overdoing the eyes
If you suffer from oily lids, then you might be tempted to layer on more eyeshadow, but this will only result in a cakey and weighted down appearance. To get an even layer of eyeshadow to stick, try using an anti-aging eyeshadow primer lotion.
