I’m sure we all hope that we will never find ourselves in a situation where we require urgent first aid or medical assistance, but, it’s better to be prepared for such an event, rather than not be prepared. Thanks to technology there are life-saving tools and software in the form of iPhone Apps which you can install on your iPhone and have quick, direct access to first aid procedures and medical advice. Having any one of these apps on your iPhone could make the difference between life and death. I’ve heard of two individuals whose lives were saved by the information they had on hand via one of these First Aid Apps.
Which app you go for will be down to your preferred style. All of the apps contain the same type of information, and present it in a similar manner. Remember that a lot of countries have slightly difference procedures when it comes to first aid, and even the emergency services number, so many people prefer to download an App provided by a healthcare service in their country – this ensures the advice given matches with that of the country, and the emergency service numbers built into the app will be correct too.
St John’s Ambulance Service First Aid App
Price: $FREE from the App Store
This app includes the latest first aid advice and protocols to help you deal with a large variety of emergency situations. All of the guides are simple, easy to follow, and include illustrations and voiced instructions too. Carry over 125 years of First Aid research, experience and knowledge on your iPhone. Besides a qualified first aider or medical professional, this is the next best thing to have on hand at times of emergency.
This app is based upon UK protocols, but there is an Australian version of the app too which is based upon Australian protocols and includes the Australian Emergency Service number instead of the UK number.
First Aid by American Red Cross
Price: $FREE from the App Store
This app is very similar to the app above, it provides the same type of information and in a similar style. The main difference is that the information in this app is given from American protocols, rather than UK or Australian protocols. It includes all of the step-by-step instructions, video guides and animations to help make learning First Aid fun and easy.
This app is by American Red Cross, and is therefore based on American protocols and includes the EMS number used in America.
Drops First Aid
Price: $1.99 from the App Store
This app has a really easy and engaging way to walk you through First Aid procedures. It works by asking you questions which you give answers to, and then the app will give you the appropriate advice or actions to take.
This app helps to reassure the person giving first aid, as they’re being asked questions and being given an answer by the app, rather than just following instructions from a visual guide. The app also includes videos to show you exactly what you need to do and how to do it.
I hope you take the time to install one of these apps on your iPhone – you can get some of them for free, so there is really no excuse not to have one of these potentially life-saving apps to hand on your iPhone, just in-case of an emergency!
