Occasionally you will hear on the news or read in the newspaper of a patient who has contracted an infection from unsanitary conditions or equipment in the hospital or medical centre in which they have been cared for. It is an ongoing battle, particularly for busy hospitals to limit the spread of infectious illnesses. It is for this reason that ever Winter you will see Norovirus posters and warnings popping up on the entrances to hospitals, warning individuals to stay away if they have been exhibiting symptoms of this bug. MRSA is another bacteria that can become problematic for hospitals and has led to staff routinely checking those who are admitted for the bacteria and putting protocols in place should they be necessary.

Hospitals have very strict policies on the equipment that is used and where possible single use items will be used in operations and during routine appointments. There are however some items that will be used numerous times during a day and will need to then be carefully cleaned and sterilised at certain time periods. This is where a Large Ultrasonic Cleaner such as the ones that are provided by https://www.hilsonic.co.uk/ can be utilised. Rather than employing someone to spend their time cleaning these items whether they are equipment parts or items used in the diagnosis of individuals, it is possible to have these cleaned ultrasonically. This allows for items with hard to reach places to be thoroughly cleaned before they then move onto the sterlisation process.

The products that are used to sterilise an item will depend very much on the number of items to be dealt with at a time and the type of item. These methods can include steam sterilization where pressurised heat spray passes over the items, flash sterilisation which works on a similar principle, dry heat which is the method that takes the most amount of time and then a variety of gases and acids such as hydrogen peroxide and peracetic acid.

With a strict cleaning and sterilisation policy most hospitals can ensure as much as possible that the items that are being used with the hospital are free from infectious illnesses and other bacteria such as MRSA that can cause issues for patients. As technology advances more and more techniques will be adopted by hospitals to further ensure the safety of those being cared for within their walls from other diseases from both within and outside the hospital building. In turn this will have a positive effect on patients and their recovery.
