You might think that all that humble bit plaster you have on the walls is just there in a functional capacity. However, there is a type of plaster called stucco that an artist can use to be incredibly creative. This has seen some terrific designs on buildings that have some unbelievably decorative improvements made to them.
Plaster is not a load bearing material but if done properly it can be spectacular decor. Stucco is not something that you’d necessarily want on your wall, better to leave that to Plasterers Gloucester for a professional job. However if you want some fancy italianate decoration around your lights or an enormous statue of Vishnu in all his aspects then stucco is for you!
Stucco is the usual elements of sand and cement but with lots of lime added to whiten it. This sometimes gives it a marble sparkly effect. It can also be easily painted over just like regular plaster. The main reason it is used is to cover up the parts of the building that the architect did not want to be seen. If there were pipes or brickwork exposed then a good way to cover them up, and if the client had the money, was to put stucco work in place.
