What is Capral Tunnel Syndrome and How Can I Prevent it?

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition where the nerve in the wrist has pressure put on it. Depending on how bad it is, it can cause a wide range of symptoms, from an aching feeling which can be in your arm, around the wrist or in the fingers, a feeling of numbness, or pins and needles, or sometimes difficulty gripping objects due to a weakness in the thumb.

The usual reasons that carpal tunnel syndrome can start are various. It is common in pregnant women, as a lot of pressure is put on the body during this time anyway, it can also be hereditary, as it is more common in people who have a parent or sibling suffering from the same thing, and what you do as a job can also set it off, as can some hobbies.

One of the jobs that can make people more susceptible to carpal tunnel syndrome is office work. As you are sitting at a desk for hours a day, using your hands to perform repetitive tasks, this is one of the most common ways to damage the nerves over time. The risk can be reduced by ensuring that your posture is good when you are sitting at your desk – you may need new furniture, so have a look for some next day delivery office desks that are suitable for you.

Hobbies such as playing a musical instrument such as the piano, can also cause carpal tunnel syndrome. When you do these sorts of activities, it is important to take regular breaks throughout, as then you are not keeping a strain on the nerves and tendons, and if you feel any pain, stop immediately.
