How to Demo a House for Renovation

Demolition is an important part of renovating a house. It is hard work but necessary. In order to avoid making it an expensive process with mistakes you’ll regret; I’ll share some advice about how to demo a house for renovation safely.

Firstly, make sure you turn off the electricity and water in the room you’re going to demo. Cutting into a live wire or cutting a pipe is extremely hazardous. If you need light in the room, you can run an extension cord from another room and plug in a lamp.

To prepare for the demo, you’ll need to make sure that you have the right tools as well as appropriate clothing and work gloves, as well as steel toe shoes. Tools may include a hammer, a chisel, a crowbar and utility knife. You’ll also want to seal off the demo area. Rubble and dust can get into everything, so you’ll want to cover any openings in the room with sheets of plastic.

An important step is hiring a skip or grab lorry. A skip has a lighter payload than a grab lorry, and it needs a parking permit. However, which one you choose to hire depends on the size of your project. If you are interested in hiring a grab lorry, I highly recommend contacting Grab Lorry Hire Cheltenham.

During the demo, it’s best to clean up as you go, and to wear a respirator mask so you don’t breathe in all the dust. Lastly, make sure you find out what lies behind the walls such as electric wires or gas piping.
