Five rules for dressing for a summer wedding

Unless the happy couple set a specific dress code, you should feel under no obligation to wear anything in particular. However, there are some things you should bear in mind when it comes to dressing for a summer wedding.

Start with a great shirt – for men

You can’t really go wrong if you opt for a classic white shirt, although you probably don’t want to do ‘double white’ in case you upset the bride! The groom will probably wear a white shirt, so you could choose a subtle pattern on white. Of course, it is perfectly acceptable for guests to choose a brighter colour; weddings are meant to be a celebration after all.

Your shirt is one of the most visible parts of your outfit, so it’s worth spending a little time on choosing it; once jackets are removed, and you’re likely to spend a lot of time seated at a wedding breakfast, it will become your outfit.

Linen and Cotton

No fabric says ‘summer’ quite like linen and cotton. A linen suit for men or dress for women is perfect for a summer wedding – smart and cool, literally and figuratively. Lovely stone tones work well rather than too much white, though creams and pastels would also be appropriate. You can find a number of different dresses from prom style outfits through to Plus Size Dresses which you can find from places such as https://www.tempted.ie/dresses-plus-size-ladies-clothing-from-tempted-raheny-dublin-ireland/day-dress.html and all of them can be found in a variety of patterned designs and cool summer materials. So you are sure to be able to find something that suits you, keeps you cool in the heat and has you looking fabulous for the wedding.

Play safe with shoes

They should be comfortable but also smart; it’s someone else’s big day so it’s not the time to dress down. You should also consider where the wedding is being held as wearing you favourite stilettos or stylish suit shoes may not be the best idea if your friends are having their wedding out in the country environment.

Go bold with accessories

When you accessorise for someone else’s wedding, remember that their job is to accent, rather than steal the show. Bright colours are great and will add personality. Think about the accessories that you can use to accentuate your clothing such as jewellery and maybe even some lovely hair pieces as well.

A cut above

Great tailoring is the key when it comes to a man’s suit and you may also want to think about the way in which a dress drapes or fits to the body if you are a woman. In the height of summer you may want to opt for a dress that is slightly less fitted and allows for a flow of air.
