Deciding to place your cat into a Cheltenham Cattery like https://www.catterycheltenham.co.uk/ can seem like a scary prospect, especially if it is the first time you have left your furry little friend behind. But cattery’s are perfectly set up to cater for your cat and they will get plenty of attention and cuddles whilst you are away. But if you are still worried about how your little one will adjust, there are a few things you can do to help reduce their stress levels.

  1. Don’t just pull out their cat carrier and expect them to be pleased. Cats are clever, and they know what that little carrier means – usually a trip to the vet. So, don’t be surprised if they run away when appear from the garage holding said carrier in your hand. It may be better to place it in one of the rooms that you cats spends most of their time in, up to a week before you need to take the to the cattery. This way they will get over their initial fear whilst in their home surroundings and it will start to become something less fearful. It will also start to take on some of the scents from around the house which will give them something familiar to have in their cattery pen.
  2. If your cat has a favourite blanket you may want to take this with you to the cattery, so they have something familiar or if they have a particular attachment to an individual in your household you may want to take an item of their clothing for your cat to cuddle up to during their stay.
  3. Pass on any information that you may think is relevant to the cattery owner. This could be anything from any medication that you cat is currently on, their favourite food, if they have any allergies that you are aware of and also if you cat has any particular personality traits. The more the owner knows about your cat and their individual likes and dislikes the easier it will be for them to help them settle in and it will also help them identify if your cat is becoming stressed or upset.

  1. If you have more than one cat it is worth thinking about how well, they interact with each other and whether they should be housed together in the cattery or separated. You will need to take into consideration how your cats are with each other in their home environment and whether you think they will be a comfort to each other or an annoyance whilst you are away.

Wherever you choose for your cat you can be assured that the staff enjoy working with animals and will take care of yours until you return.
