It was a quite a troubling date when my finance Roger told me that he had something to tell me. He’d been keeping it from me he said as he didn’t want to worry me or that I would think less of him. And then he said it, he was a keen Numismatist. My mind froze as to what this could mean for us. Had he been to the Doctor about it? I wondered or was it something that was beyond medical science to cure at the moment? No, that would be silly of me he’d recently had a check-up and everything was fine as he had made a point of telling me all about it at great length over a rather heated game of canasta with Jonathan and Joan Ormsby-Gore this Tuesday last.
In my shocked silence my brain eventually kicked into at least second gear and I began to wonder what an earth he was talking about. My next reaction was that it was a cult of some kind. Oh no! I thought it’s the Numismatist cult the Daily Mail mentioned! He’s going to want to go and live in a ghastly social commune in Wales or somewhere and I shall have to learn to raise goats or something horrid like that. Daddy will never stand for it! I won’t wear a kaftan or some kind of Shawl. I wanted to say this but all that came out of my now fevered mouth was “I refuse to by a hippy and leave Middlesex Roger, no!” And then I accidently slammed my hand down inadvertently catapulting my soup spoon out of the bowl sending a rather passable, but by no means special lobster bisque, in a beautiful arch up off the table and onto the carpet.
Roger looked stunned by my outburst and then slowly the sense returned to his inbred face and I soon remembered the reason why I fell in love with him over the cocktails at the Agricultural Ball.
“Oh you silly, silly thing. I’m a coin collector. I want to work as a Coin Dealer UK based and buy and date coins. I’ve got quite a large collection from down through the ages and they should be worth quite a pretty penny old girl and some of them are very pretty too”.
A coin dealer for a husband, how exciting I thought and asked Roger to show me his collection. We spent a good hour or so looking through the coins, some of them very old but with intricate designs on them. I can’t wait to tell Daddy and all my friends about this.
