Citroën has among its plans to launch in 2020 the C4 Cactus 100% electric along with conventional engine options. This new version will move from the old PF1 platform to the new compact modular platform (CMP) of the PSA Group.
The design of the new C4 Cactus will also be based on the Cxperience concept we saw in 2016 and two new prototypes will be presented to celebrate the centenary of the French brand, including a concept inspired by the 2CV.
Celebrating 100 years of history
This has been confirmed by the senior vice president of marketing and communications of Citroën, Arnaud Belloni, to Autocar . The little that is known about the electric version of the C4 Cactus saloon is that it will share a platform with the next Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa and will equip improvements in comfort as part of Citroën’s ‘Advanced Comfort’ strategy.
In terms of design, remember that the Cxperience was presented two years ago as a plug-in hybrid saloon and refers to the flagship of the brand, the Citroën CX, which remained in production from 1974 to 1991.
The C4 Cactus will become the first new generation electric vehicle of the brand after the C-Zero , presented in 2010 and which is twin of the Mitsubishi i MIEV and the Peugeot i0n.
But before the launch of this model, the French firm will present at the Geneva Motor Show an urban concept based on the mythical 2CV and that will be the axis of the celebrations of its centenary.
It will be a fully electric prototype and production “affordable” that will move away from the rural character of its predecessor. On the other hand, Citroën will present in April 2019 a futuristic autonomous prototype of which not many details are known. We’ll have to wait for the Shanghai Hall.
The PSA Group, which can claim to have managed to turn Opel into a profitable company, has among its electrification plans offer a hybrid or electric version of each model Citroën, Peugeot and Vauxhall from 2019.
